Lucas aka Clandestino
Internship @ Chez William
My name is Lucas. I’m an illustration and storyboarding student at Luca School of Arts Ghent. I have my appartement close to Camping Penrose but originally I’m from the seaside of Belgium. Apart from illustration I’m learning the beautiful art of tattooing.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I like getting my inspiration from all kinds of stuff around me. If I had to choose a few artists, those would be Sergio Toppi, James Jean and Salvador Dali. I really like their organic way of drawing and they have been a very big inspiration to me.
Tell us more about your artwork.
My favourite tool is a normal black fineliner. Hatching, dot work and playing with textures is what I prefer doing. If I’d have to draw 1 thing for the rest of my life it would be plants.
Why choose screen printing?
When I was 15 I had a very basic course of screen printing at the art academy. I loved it but didn’t have the resources to learn more. Now I’m studying in Ghent and I learned that the possibilities are endless. I like experimenting a lot and I try to get away from my computer as much as possible. Working analogue and with a passion for illustration and T-shirts, screen printing might just be the perfect art-form for me.
What do you hope getting out of this internship, and where do you see yourself after finishing school?
At the moment I only know the basics of screen printing so there’s a lot to learn. I hope to get lots of inspiration and to learn a lot of new techniques. It would be nice to get a lot of insights in working analogue. After school I’ll go backpacking in Costa Rica with my mom for a few weeks. I’m taking my bike with me. The plan is to travel to Argentina and tattoo people on the way. I don’t know yet what’s going to be on my path so I’ll just see how everything turns out. 🙂
